REVIVAL OF MEMORY AND IDENTITY

The Project that the Cultural Association “Le Antiche Torri” intends to develop  aims at reviving the memory of the  Phenomenon of Emigration abroad  of the people from the Marches, from 1876 up to now, as stated in the Regional Law n. 39 of the 20th June 1997. This Project will analyse the area around the Sibillini and specifically  the villages  belonging to the Comunità Montana of the Monti Azzurri of San Ginesio  and  the Comunità Montana of the Sibillini of Comunanza.

The study of data and the recovery of documents aims at defining the migration routes and phases of the development of this phenomenon in order to reconstruct the history of those who left their native land in search of a better future, without ever breaking the thread that linked them to their roots.

Such work will also link the sense of belonging to the values and rich culture of our mountain areas in those who had to leave and will allow the younger generations, born abroad to know their forefhaters’ native land and to appreciate not only the beauty and historical heritage, but also the many initiatives and economic activities of today.

OBJECTIVES

1) – Reconstruction of the causes for leaving the native towns of the Sibillini area.
2) – Individualization of the migration routes and the major receiving countries involved.
3) – Analysis of the documents relative to the Emigration from the Marches through seminars, workshops and publication of the results.
4) – Creation of a Museum Centre for all the materials collected relative to this phenomenon and a catalogue.
5) – Creation of a network connection between the Marches emigrant communities abroad on one hand and Italian political institutions and  cultural and economic organizations on the other.
6) – Development of intercultural itineraries for young people of Marches origin to recuperate their own identity and that of their forefathers, the culture and language of origin, also in the view of the right to vote as Italians living abroad.
7) – Exchange of art, scientific and economic experience through meetings, conferences, “stages” and study holidays.
